from their maternal grandfather’s lineage, Maia comes from 5 generations of Los Angeles Mexican-Americans, from Kohler Street in DTLA to Boyle Heights to MPK.

they graduated from Bennington College (VT) in 2015, Bachelor of Arts: Marginalized Identities in Performance — combining courses in History & Public Action with Acting, Directing, & Playwriting.

while in college, they co-founded the QTBIPOC student collective, Kalopsia: Check All That Apply — organized around equity & inclusion advocacy.

they wrote “Remembrance” (short play on love & longing) for the 24-Hour Plays Bennington alumni fundraiser (January 2019) at The Lucille Lortel Theatre (NYC) — directed by alumni David Drake ‘88 & costumed designed by Michael Robinson ‘87.
